Sunderland Select Board Tables Annual Reappointments After Missing Committees Found on Draft List
WHATELY — June 8, 2026 — Sunderland Select Board defers its annual committee reappointment vote after finding multiple boards missing from the draft list. Meeting Monday with two of three members present, the board had planned to approve the bulk of its fiscal year 2027 reappointments — holding only four names pending confirmation — but as members reviewed the document they found the Village Center Committee, South County EMS, the Energy Committee, and the Ditch Committee absent entirely, likely the result of a formatting error in which committees flagged for follow-up were pulled to a front exception page and dropped from the main body. "I'm wondering what happened — if what happened was the categories that had missing people ended up getting brought to the front but missing in the back," one member said. The board also learned that assessor Mike Wiseman is departing June 30, triggering a joint Select Board and Board of Assessors appointment process, and discussed the Council on Aging's possible dissolution after it emerged the committee has only one remaining member and has not been meeting. Staff was directed to reconcile the list against prior-year records before a corrected vote, targeted for June 29, with the hard deadline of July 1 when all new terms begin.
