Selectboard · Meeting of October 14, 2026
Whately's Selectboard weighed billing Hatfield up to $500 per call as primary fire responses there jumped from 14 percent of calls in 2024 to 27 percent this year. The fire chief presented three years of data and proposed making the charge retroactive to July 1; no vote was taken, and the draft contract was sent to town counsel. Chair Fred Baron said, "We are not subsidizing Hatfield for their failure to provide adequate service." The board separately voted unanimously to advance a draft inter-municipal police agreement making Whately's chief a "strong chief" under state law, approved $1,153 in opioid settlement funds for a shared mental health clinician's training, and appointed Jessica Murphy interim assistant town clerk for the November 3 election.
