WHATELY — The Whately Selectboard and Finance Committee leaned toward recommending a "no" vote on a new Franklin County Technical School building ahead of the regional district's October 6 vote. Members cited an estimated $240,000 annual increase to the town budget, or roughly $250 per household, with the Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursing 66 percent of eligible costs but leaving Whately responsible for about 48 percent of the total. One member said "it's just the crazy cost," while another argued the district should "show us what you're going to do or don't do it." No formal roll-call vote was taken; several members said they would abstain.

In other business, the board appointed Kylie Angel to the Board of Health through June 30, 2027, signed a letter of support for the Franklin Conservation District, and reported that delayed free-cash certification will again push tax bills past their October 1 due date.
