Whately assessors weigh posting home sales data as tax abatement window closes. The Board of Assessors used its January 29 meeting to debate publishing two years of arm's-length property sales data, compiled through contracted assessing firm RRG's access to Multiple Listing Service records, on the town website to help explain rising assessments. Board member Mike said "we all know why taxes went up: they went up because sales went up," pushing for a public sales list with explanatory narrative, though no formal vote was recorded before discussion moved to executive session.
Board member Jane favored keeping the board's meeting time at 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, saying that slot is "more friendly on both ends" for residents who work. The board also flagged a closing February 2 abatement filing deadline, noting only one abatement request had been filed despite this year's assessment increases, and approved the December 18 meeting minutes unanimously.
