Other Committee · Meeting of August 20, 2026

Whately's Board of Assessors tabled a plan to post real estate sales data online, asking staff to compare report formats used in other towns first. Board member Fred questioned why assessed values, not just sale prices, needed to appear on any public report, while staffer Mike countered he saw "nothing but positive" reasons to proceed, saying "I can't see an argument why we wouldn't do this." The board also left unresolved a months-old question about why land values changed in only one section of town, with one member warning a correction could shift values from $95,000 to $120,000 for some properties. Separately, the board refined a new senior property tax work-off program, setting income limits of $45,000 for singles and $60,000 for couples against a roughly $6,000 budget covering about five participants.

The meeting ended with a unanimous vote to enter executive session on property values and not return to open session.
