Whately Historical Commission moves forward on a self-guided audio walking tour of town center historic sites. The commission, meeting April 13, confirmed Finance Committee enthusiasm for the project and its placement on the town warrant, then spent the bulk of the session debating scope. A working list of roughly 18 to 19 candidate stops was widely seen as too long; members settled on a target tour length of 30 to 40 minutes, with individual stops running 90 seconds to three minutes.
Member Ashley, who consolidated the research into a shared Google document, said the commission should think about thematic criteria, revolutionary history, architectural change, visual interest, before finalizing stops. Member Judy noted the original list assumed a local audience and would need reworking for general visitors. The group agreed each member would select a top-12 stop list before the May 18 meeting, after which the commission expects to pursue scripting and voice talent.
