School Committee 2026-10-06 Part 3 · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Whately School Committee adopted a revised policy on law enforcement and immigration-agent interactions, rescinding its prior version. The new policy, matching language at Frontier Regional and Deerfield Elementary, directs federal agents to process paperwork at the Deerfield police station rather than on school grounds. The superintendent said "I'm not hearing of any ICE raids happening on schools or even entering schools" anywhere in the state.
The committee also reviewed 2026 MCAS data showing 33 of Whately Elementary's 69 tested students, nearly half, are classified as high needs, and a 37 percentage-point gender gap favoring boys in math. A capital plan previewed $500,000 to $750,000 in coming roof and boiler work, and warrants totaling $34,116 were approved. A proposed four-town superintendent's agreement got a first reading, with a final vote expected in April.
