Planning Board · Meeting of September 29, 2026

Whately Planning Board endorsed a lot-line split for 23 LaSalle Drive and heard an early pitch for a 299 River Road solar project. Vice Chair JD Ross presided in Chair Brant Cheikes' absence as the board walked through statutory frontage and access criteria for applicant John LaSalle's approval-not-required plan, unanimously finding the parcels meet the 175-foot frontage rule and endorsing the plan as "approval under the subdivision control law not required." The board flagged a shared-driveway question for the building inspector under zoning bylaw 171-11 and a Chapter 61A right-of-first-refusal notice for the Select Board. Separately, Hyperion Systems, a Belchertown solar developer, introduced plans for a 960-panel, 590-kilowatt agrivoltaic array on 299 River Road growing strawberries and later asparagus beneath the panels, with no board action taken.
