Whately's capital panel rates highway fleet needs urgent, splits on senior center furniture. The Capital Improvement Planning Committee gave Priority A ratings to four highway department requests, including a $224,000 wheel loader the town hopes to partly cover with a $300,000 state unpaved-roads grant, plus an $8,775 trailer, a $55,000 pickup truck, and a $150,000 dump truck. A $69,045.51 police cruiser replacement drew a lower Priority B, matching a 2024 rating for the same vehicle, while a corrected police station roof estimate dropped from $40,000 to roughly $24,000 after officials found two quotes had been mistakenly added together.
Joyce, presenting for the South County Senior Center, told the committee active Whately membership grew from seven in 2018 to 82 in 2025 as she sought $12,000 toward $67,000 in furniture for a larger leased space; the committee split 4-2 in favor of Priority B over C.
